Isaiah 65:17 “For behold, I create new heavens and a new earth; and the former shall not be remembered or come to mind.”
When God the Father does away with this current earth, He will not only do away with it physically, but He will also do away with all memory of it. In the above passage of scripture, God tells us that when He creates the new earth, that at the same time, He will wipe away all memory of the earth that exists today. And so, no one dwelling in God’s new earth will think about the old and thus compare it to the new, for they will just have no memory of it.
2 Peter 3:7-12 “But the heavens and the earth which are now preserved by the same word, are reserved for fire until the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men. … (10) But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night, in which the heavens will pass away with a great noise, and the elements will melt with fervent heat; both the earth and the works that are in it will be burned up. (11) Therefore, since all these things will be dissolved, what manner of persons ought you to be in holy conduct and godliness, (12) looking for and hastening the coming of the day of God, because of which the heavens will be dissolved, being on fire, and the elements will melt with fervent heat?”
So how will God destroy this current earth? In the above passage of scripture, the Holy Spirit through the apostle Peter reveals to us that the earth will be destroyed by fire. We can only speculate as to how hot the fire will be that God will use to destroy the earth. The above passage speaks of the elements melting, and then completely dissolving. We know that rocks melt at approximately 1000 degrees Celsius and most probably turn into gas at 11000 degrees Celsius. Nevertheless, whichever way you look at it, the temperatures that the earth will be exposed to on that day, will be sufficient to melt the earth and then completely dissolve it, so that it no longer exists.
