Unforgiveness: Satan’s Trap for Believers
2 Corinthians 2:10-11 “Now whom you forgive anything, I also forgive. For if indeed I have forgiven anything, I have forgiven that one for your sakes in the presence of Christ, (11) lest Satan should take advantage of us; for we are not ignorant of his devices.” Unforgiveness is an effective device used by Satan to gain advantage over believers. Satan uses unforgiveness as a weapon against believers because he knows that this is a very effective way for him to hinder a Chri

Unforgiveness Produces Torment and Doubt
Matthew 18:34-35 “And his master was angry, and delivered him to the torturers until he should pay all that was due to him. (35) "So, My heavenly Father also will do to you if each of you, from his heart, does not forgive his brother his trespasses.” The second negative consequence of unforgiveness is that it opens the door for torment in the believer’s life. Our Lord Jesus revealed that truth to us in the above quoted passage of scripture. Another translation of the word

Unforgiveness Traps Believers in Sin
Matthew 18:32-33 “Then his master, after he had called him, said to him, 'You wicked servant! I forgave you all that debt because you begged me. (33) Should you not also have had compassion on your fellow servant, just as I had pity on you?'” As revealed by the Lord Jesus in the above quoted parable, there can be no doubt that heaven does not view unforgiveness favourably. So now that we have looked at how forgiveness operates, we can more clearly understand how believer

Forgive Unbelievers Unreservedly Always
Matthew 6:12-15 “And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. … (14) "For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. (15) But if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.” Mark 11:25-26 “And whenever you stand praying, if you have anything against anyone, forgive him that your Father in heaven may also forgive you your trespasses. (26) But if you do not forgive, neither will

Forgive and Forget as God Does
Hebrews 8:12 “For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their lawless deeds I will remember no more.” Forgiveness goes hand in hand with forgetting. One cannot forgive from the heart, but refuse to forget the offence suffered. When God forgives us our sins, He chooses to no longer remember them as an act of His will, for notice in the above quoted passage of scripture that God the Father says “I will” remember their sins no more. Philippians 4:8

Withhold Forgiveness from Unrepentant Believers
John 20:22-23 “And when He had said this, He breathed on them, and said to them, "Receive the Holy Spirit. (23) If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven them; if you retain the sins of any, they are retained.” Nevertheless, scripture does teach us that there are times when we do not forgive brethren, and we hold the person accountable for their sin. In the above quoted passage of scripture we see that our Lord Jesus gave authority to His church to withhold forgiv

Forgiveness among Brethren
1 Corinthians 6:4-8 “If then you have judgments concerning things pertaining to this life, do you appoint those who are least esteemed by the church to judge? (5) I say this to your shame. Is it so, that there is not a wise man among you, not even one, who will be able to judge between his brethren? (6) But brother goes to law against brother, and that before unbelievers! (7) Now therefore, it is already an utter failure for you that you go to law against one another. W

Forgiven People Forgive Others
Colossians 2:13-14 “And you, being dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, He has made alive together with Him, having forgiven you all trespasses, (14) having wiped out the handwriting of requirements that was against us, which was contrary to us. And He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross.” Before we can walk in forgiveness toward others, we need to be fully assured in our own hearts of the absolute forgiveness that we have r
