Revelation 20:11 “Then I saw a great white throne and Him who sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away. And there was found no place for them.”
In the previous section, we discussed the great white throne judgement of the unbelievers. It is just before their judgement begins, that God will completely destroy this current earth that we dwell in. For even Hades, which is located in the centre of this current earth will be cast into the lake of fire on that day. In the above passage of scripture, the Holy Spirit reveals to us that this current earth will flee from the face of God at that time, and that there will be no place found for it in all of God’s creation. What that simply means, is that God will completely destroy this current earth that we dwell in.
Matthew 24:35-36 “Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will by no means pass away. (36) "But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, but My Father only.”
Our Lord Jesus confirmed that which the apostle John saw in the book of Revelation, for in the above passage of scripture, Jesus stated very clearly that this earth will pass away. The same words translated “pass away”, also means to perish. When Jesus made this comment, He contrasted this earth to His word, in that He showed us that His word is eternal, but this earth is temporary. And so, even though this earth has been in existence for an estimated period of over four billion years, when compared to eternity, that is still considered temporary.
