The sea of glass

Isaiah 66:22-23 “For as the new heavens and the new earth which I will make shall remain before Me," says the Lord, "So shall your descendants and your name remain. (23) And it shall come to pass That from one New Moon to another, and from one Sabbath to another, all flesh shall come to worship before Me," says the Lord.”

Revelation 4:6 “Before the throne there was a sea of glass, like crystal. And in the midst of the throne, and around the throne, were four living creatures full of eyes in front and in back.”

Revelation 15:2 “And I saw something like a sea of glass mingled with fire, and those who have the victory over the beast, over his image and over his mark and over the number of his name, standing on the sea of glass, having harps of God.”

We have already looked at the above passages of scripture, to show that all of God’s creation will stand before His throne on the sea of glass, to worship before Him. In this section, in discussing the design of the New Jerusalem, we want to look at the dimensions of this area around the throne. It will take an area of approximately 20000 square kilometres to accommodate a multitude of approximately 60 billion people standing around the throne of God and the Lamb, to worship before the Lord. To get some perspective about the size of that area, it means that the person standing at the back of the crowd will be standing approximately seventy kilometres away from the throne of God. Obviously God will make Himself clearly seen and heard by all His creation that stands before Him and so the distance from the throne will not be an issue. But as far as the design of the New Jerusalem is concerned, I wanted to mention the dimensions of this inner court area so that we can have a clearer idea as to what the city will look like.
