Revelation 21:23-26 “The city had no need of the sun or of the moon to shine in it, for the glory of God illuminated it. The Lamb is its light. (24) And the nations of those who are saved shall walk in its light, and the kings of the earth bring their glory and honour into it. (25) Its gates shall not be shut at all by day (there shall be no night there). (26) And they shall bring the glory and the honour of the nations into it.”
The above passage of scripture, speaks about the kings of the earth bringing their glory and honour into the heavenly city of Jerusalem. So, who are the kings of the earth, which are referred to in this passage? The answer to that question, is the saints of God, for scripture plainly tells us that it is the Lord’s saints that will reign as kings in the new earth (Revelation 5:10). And so then, what is the glory and honour that the saints will bring into the heavenly city? The above passage tells us that the saints will bring the glory and honour of the nations into the city. The question is then raised, as to what is the glory and honour of the nations, which the saints will be bringing into the New Jerusalem? The answer to that question is quite simply, the produce from their farms. As we will see later in this series, there will be no farming that will take place in the heavenly city, but nevertheless the saints will still eat and drink normal foods, as they share meals with each other in the city. And so, the food and drink that the saints will partake of will be prepared from the farm produce of the nations in the earth. As we have already mentioned earlier, the resurrected bodies of the children of God, will be different to the resurrected bodies of the saints. The resurrected bodies of the children of God will be similar to the bodies that Adam and Eve had, before they sinned. And so, the bodies of the children of God will need to be sustained with physical foods, just as Adam and Eve’s bodies needed to be sustained with physical foods. This is one of the reasons, why farming will be a way of life for the children of God. The resurrected bodies of the saints however, will be spiritual bodies, just like the body that our Lord Jesus has. And so, although the saints of God will be able to partake of physical foods, for Jesus ate physical food after He was raised from the dead (Luke 24:41-43), their bodies will not need physical foods to sustain them. Which is why the Holy Spirit through the apostle Paul, teaches us that as far as the saints are concerned, that God will do away with both the stomach and natural foods (1 Corinthians 6:13). The reason for that is because the bodies of the saints will be sustained with the fruit of the tree of Life.
