The daily sacrifice

Revelation 7:15 “Therefore they are before the throne of God, and serve Him day and night in His temple. And He who sits on the throne will dwell among them.”

The above passage of scripture describes the saints as serving before the throne of God, both day and night. So, what does that mean? It does not mean that both the Lord Jesus and the saints, will stand before God for all eternity and worship Him, for God Himself has decreed that both the Lord Jesus and His saints are to reign over all of creation as well. And as we will see, that aspect of our lives will also make demands on our time. So then, just how much of our time will be dedicated to serving as priests, bearing in mind that we will have twenty-four hours available to us every day to fulfil all our roles, because just as our Lord Jesus, we will no longer sleep? And so, to answer that question we can look to the old covenant, for the old covenant was given as a type and shadow of that which is to come. Under the old covenant, the priests were required to offer both a morning and an evening sacrifice before the Lord, every single day (Exodus 29:38-39). And so, in the New Jerusalem, every morning and every evening the saints will gather with the Lord Jesus before the throne, to offer the daily sacrifices before the Lord. And that is what the above scripture means, when it says that we will serve God both day and night.

Psalms 141:2 “Let my prayer be set before You as incense, The lifting up of my hands as the evening sacrifice.”

You say, what is the daily sacrifice? Under the old covenant, the priests offered a lamb on the altar, but the priests under the new covenant will not be offering lambs. The Holy Spirit, in the above passage of scripture describes the evening sacrifice to us. It is the lifting up of our hands before the Lord in worship. In other words, every morning and every evening, all of the Lord’s saints will stand before the throne of God on the sea of glass, and offer our worship before Him. And if our Lord’s comment is to be used as a guide, then we can be assured that this time of worship before the throne of God, will be no less than one hour every morning and one hour every evening (Matthew 26:40). This, the saints will do for all eternity.
