John 16:7-11 “Nevertheless I tell you the truth. It is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you; but if I depart, I will send Him to you. (8) And when He has come, He will convict the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment: (9) of sin, because they do not believe in Me; (10) of righteousness, because I go to My Father and you see Me no more; (11) of judgment, because the ruler of this world is judged.”
In the above passage of scripture, our Lord Jesus revealed to us that Satan has already been judged, for “the ruler of this world” referred to in this passage is the devil. And so, we see that unlike the rest of God’s enemies that are still to be judged, that Satan has already had his judgement pronounced.
Ezekiel 28:17-19 “Your heart was lifted up because of your beauty; You corrupted your wisdom for the sake of your splendour; I cast you to the ground, I laid you before kings, that they might gaze at you. (18) "You defiled the sanctuary by the multitude of your iniquities, by the iniquity of your trading; Therefore, I brought fire from your midst; it devoured you, and I turned you to ashes upon the earth in the sight of all who saw you. (19) All who knew you among the peoples are astonished at you; you have become a horror and shall be no more forever."”
Isaiah 14:12-17 “How you are fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! How you are cut down to the ground, you who weakened the nations! (13) For you have said in your heart: 'I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God; I will also sit on the mount of the congregation On the farthest sides of the north; (14) I will ascend above the heights of the clouds, I will be like the Most High.' (15) Yet you shall be brought down to Sheol, to the lowest depths of the Pit. (16) "Those who see you will gaze at you, and consider you, saying: 'Is this the man who made the earth tremble, who shook kingdoms, (17) Who made the world as a wilderness and destroyed its cities, who did not open the house of his prisoners?”
So, who judged Satan, and what judgement has been pronounced on him? We see from the above quoted passages of scripture, that it is God Who has judged Satan, and the judgement that has been pronounced on him, is that God will bring forth fire from his midst to devour him. And so, as we will see, not only will Satan ultimately be cast into the lake of fire, but he will also be consumed with fire from within. We also see from these passages, that in the future ages to come, that the Lord’s saints will look upon the devil and the judgement of his eternal torment. When we discuss the design of the New Jerusalem later in this series, we will see just how God will make this possible.
