Sabbaths and New Moons

Isaiah 66:22-23 “For as the new heavens and the new earth which I will make shall remain before Me," says the Lord, "So shall your descendants and your name remain. (23) And it shall come to pass That from one New Moon to another, and from one Sabbath to another, all flesh shall come to worship before Me," says the Lord.”

We have already looked at the above passage of scripture, to show that the new earth will experience both night and day, and also seasons. But this passage also highlights another truth to us, about life on God’s new earth. And that is, that everyone living on the earth in the age to come will gather to the city of Jerusalem every Sabbath, every New Moon, and every set feast. The reason they will gather there, will be to worship before the Lord. Now as we have already mentioned, the population of the earth to begin with, will be approximately twenty-five billion people. And that number will continue to grow as we head into the new age. So, where will such a vast multitude be able to gather together, to worship before the Lord every Sabbath, New Moon and Feast?

Revelation 4:6 “Before the throne there was a sea of glass, like crystal. And in the midst of the throne, and around the throne, were four living creatures full of eyes in front and in back.”

Revelation 15:2 “And I saw something like a sea of glass mingled with fire, and those who have the victory over the beast, over his image and over his mark and over the number of his name, standing on the sea of glass, having harps of God.”

In the next section, we will discuss the New Jerusalem in more detail. But there is one aspect that needs to be mentioned now, in order to explain how the vast population of the earth, will be accommodated to worship before the Lord every Sabbath, New Moon and Feast. The above quoted passages of scripture speak about a sea of glass in heaven that the angels and saints of God, stand on when worshipping before His throne. As we will see, that same sea of glass will surround the throne of God in the heavenly city of Jerusalem, in the age to come. And so, it is on that sea of glass, that all of God’s creation will stand before Him to worship Him.
