1 John 1:9 “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”
One, who prays in other tongues, speaks directly to God, and God fully understands what he is praying about, for it is God the Holy Spirit, who has given him the utterance in the first place. And so because of this, prayer in the spirit is always heard by God. It is very important for us to realise, that prayer in the spirit is always heard by God. We saw earlier, that the Holy Spirit has taught us that we can either pray with our spirits, or we can pray with our understanding. Praying with the understanding has its limitations. The most important aspect to a successful prayer life is having our prayers heard by God. There are many prayers of the understanding however, that are uttered even by the saints, that are never heard by God. There are two main reasons for prayers of the understanding, not being heard by the Lord. The first reason, is unconfessed sin in the life of the believer. In the scripture quoted above, the Holy Spirit tells us that if we confess our sins that we will be cleansed from all unrighteousness. Conversely, the Holy Spirit is also telling us that if we do not confess our sins, that we are not cleansed from all unrighteousness.
