Shouting: Demons Cry Out

Acts 8:5-8 “Then Philip went down to the city of Samaria and preached Christ to them.  (6)  And the multitudes with one accord heeded the things spoken by Philip, hearing and seeing the miracles which he did.  (7)  For unclean spirits, crying with a loud voice came out of many who were possessed; and many who were paralyzed and lame were healed.  (8) And there was great joy in that city.”

In this section, we will discuss the phenomenon of people shouting out during certain Christian meetings. I am not referring to those who attend meetings with a specific agenda to disrupt the meeting by shouting out, for obviously, the one doing the shouting in that instance is in full control of their behaviour. I am talking about those who find themselves shouting out while the meeting is in progress and have no control over their actions. There is only one type of manifestation in this area:

·         People shouting out by a demonic spirit.

This action is forced upon the individual, i.e., the person loses all self-control in this area, which in itself is a clear indication of the type of spirit being manifested. The manifestation of people shouting out in meetings takes place in one of two ways: either the person will cry out with a loud noise, or they will actually shout out some sort of statement.

Firstly, we will discuss the scenario where the person being prayed for begins to shout out as hands are laid on them. In this instance, the person being prayed for already has a demon. As we saw earlier, some people, even Christians, can have demons that are oppressing them in some way, and those same people are unaware that it is, in fact, a demon that is afflicting them. And so, when believers filled with the Holy Spirit lay hands on them, very often the demon manifests by causing the person to cry out loudly. And so, it is incumbent upon either the person laying hands or the leaders of the meeting to discern that an unclean spirit is manifesting and cast the demon out of the individual. But unless either the person laying hands or the leaders recognizes that it is a demon manifesting, nothing will be done to deliver that individual, and they will remain oppressed. And so, sadly, many are never delivered because both those laying hands and the meeting leaders have no discernment and attribute the manifestation to the work of the Holy Spirit. The above passage of scripture describes how demons cause people to cry out loudly when they are being cast out of individuals through the laying on of hands.

Luke 4:33-35 “Now in the synagogue there was a man who had a spirit of an unclean demon. And he cried out with a loud voice, (34) saying, "Let us alone! What have we to do with You, Jesus of Nazareth? Did You come to destroy us? I know who You are--the Holy One of God!"  (35)  But Jesus rebuked him, saying, "Be quiet, and come out of him!" And when the demon had thrown him in their midst, it came out of him and did not hurt him.”

It can also happen that the demon manifests without anyone laying hands on them, purely because the person is in a Christian gathering. That's exactly what happened in the above account of a meeting that Jesus was conducting, for the demon cried out and interrupted Jesus while He was ministering. Again, if we look at the ministry of Jesus as our example, every time this type of manifestation happened in His ministry, Jesus commanded the demon to be silent and then cast the demon out of the individual. There was a time in my ministry when quite often people would shout out in anger against what I was teaching, no matter what subject I was teaching on. So, I went to the Lord about the problem because obviously, these manifestations were very disruptive in the meetings. In my ignorance at the time, I assumed that the people who were shouting out were doing so of their own accord, but the Lord showed me that it was, in fact, a demon manifesting, and He referred me to the above passage of scripture to teach me this truth. He then taught me to first bind the unclean spirits in the meeting before the meeting began, and that would then prohibit them from shouting out to disrupt the meetings. Ever since then, I have not had that problem again, although I have observed people in the congregation becoming agitated as I minister, but nevertheless not being able to shout out as before so as to disrupt the meeting.

During the period when I was experiencing these disruptions, there was an occasion when I was able to speak afterward to a gentleman that had shouted out in the meeting because I knew him, although not very well. And he stated that he had no idea what made him shout out like that and that it happened without his being able to control it. There are a lot more demons attached to believers than we realize, and it is really only in the presence of the Holy Spirit that they will manifest themselves.

And then there is the even more disturbing aspect of this type of demonic manifestation, which is when the person laying hands on the individual is the one who themselves has a demon. And so, when that person lays their hands on the individual being prayed for, they impart a similar spirit to that individual, and that spirit then causes the individual to begin crying out loudly. In these instances, the person laying hands will obviously do nothing about it because they are convinced that this is the work of the Holy Spirit. And so, the individual who is prayed for leaves the meeting with a demon that they didn’t have before.
