Revelation 21:1 “Now I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away. Also, there was no more sea.”
Another major difference, between the earth we know today and the earth in the age to come, is the absence of the oceans. In the above passage of scripture, the Holy Spirit reveals to us that there will be no sea in the new earth. Currently, the oceans of the earth cover approximately seventy percent of the earth’s surface. And so, presently mankind can only live on thirty percent of the earth’s surface. In the new earth however, mankind will live not only on an earth that is three hundred times the size of the earth today, but they will also live on all the surface of the earth, and not be constrained to living on only thirty percent of the earth’s surface. Thus, the new earth will be able to accommodate a population which is far larger than that which this current earth can sustain, which as we will see later in this series, will be essential. As an aside, many scientists think that the earth today, has a maximum carrying capacity of 10 billion people. The current population of the earth is 7.8 billion people, and so we are not far away from reaching the 10 billion mark.
