Diet in the new age – Part 2

Ezekiel 47:8-10 “Then he said to me: "This water flows toward the eastern region, goes down into the valley, and enters the sea. When it reaches the sea, its waters are healed. (9) And it shall be that every living thing that moves, wherever the rivers go, will live. There will be a very great multitude of fish, because these waters go there; for they will be healed, and everything will live wherever the river goes. (10) It shall be that fishermen will stand by it from En Gedi to En Eglaim; they will be places for spreading their nets. Their fish will be of the same kinds as the fish of the Great Sea, exceedingly many.”

In context, the above passage of scripture refers to the period of our Lord’s millennial reign on this current earth. But there are a number of truths revealed in this passage, which also pertain to the new earth in the age to come. The river referred to in this passage, is the river of Life that will flow from the Lord’s throne when He reigns on the earth. In the age to come, that same river of Life will flow from both the Lord’s throne and the throne of God the Father. Clearly from this passage, we can see that the saints will be eating fish during our Lord’s millennial reign, and there is no reason to believe that that would not continue in the age to come. This passage describes the river as containing a multitude of fish, and so there is no reason to believe that the river of Life in the age to come will not contain fish as well. It is important to note from this passage however, that although the river of Life begins at the Lord’s throne in the temple, fish are only mentioned after the river has flowed out of the city of Jerusalem. In the same manner, as we will see later in this series, there will be no fish in the river of Life as it flows through the heavenly city, for fish will only be present in the rivers that flow outside of the city walls. This passage also describes the fish in the river as being the same kinds as the fish of the sea. And so, we see that even though there will be no sea in the new earth that it is possible that the rivers of the new earth will contain the same fish that currently swim in the sea. And so, just as certain animals will be available for food, so fish will also continue to be available for food in the age to come.

Luke 22:15-16 “Then He said to them, "With fervent desire I have desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer; (16) for I say to you, I will no longer eat of it until it is fulfilled in the kingdom of God.”

In the above passage of scripture, our Lord Jesus gave us some insight into what will be eaten in the age to come. For in this passage, our Lord clearly tells us that He will once again partake of the Passover meal when it is fulfilled in the kingdom of God. In other words, our Lord is telling us that for all eternity, the Passover meal will be something that He, His saints and the children of God will continue to eat during the Passover feast that will be celebrated every year. And the three main ingredients for that feast are unleavened bread, bitter herbs and a lamb. And so, clearly we will continue to eat meat in the age to come.
