Revelation 21:23-27 “The city had no need of the sun or of the moon to shine in it, for the glory of God illuminated it. The Lamb is its light. (24) And the nations of those who are saved shall walk in its light, and the kings of the earth bring their glory and honour into it. (25) Its gates shall not be shut at all by day (there shall be no night there). (26) And they shall bring the glory and the honour of the nations into it. (27) But there shall by no means enter it anything that defiles, or causes an abomination or a lie, but only those who are written in the Lamb's Book of Life.”
I have already mentioned that the resurrected bodies of the children of God will be different to the resurrected bodies of the saints. The above passage of scripture highlights another aspect of this truth to us. For in this passage, the scripture clearly teaches us that there will be no night in the city of Jerusalem. The scripture reveals to us that the reason that the city will not experience any night, is because the glory of God will illuminate the city, for all eternity. But I want you to notice, that it will only be in the city itself that there will be no night, for the rest of the earth will experience both day and night. And so, the reason that there will be no night in the city is because the saints living there will never sleep. For unlike our natural bodies that we now live in, the resurrected bodies of the saints will never need sleep. But nevertheless, just as Adam and Eve did, the resurrected bodies of the children of God will need to sleep. And so, it will be necessary for the rest of the earth to experience both day and night, not only so that the children of God can sleep, but also so that the rest of God’s creation i.e. both plants and animals, can also function naturally as God created them to function.
Revelation 22:5 “There shall be no night there: They need no lamp nor light of the sun, for the Lord God gives them light. And they shall reign forever and ever.”
Again, in the above passage of scripture, God the Father confirms the truth to us, that there will be no night experienced in the New Jerusalem. This is obviously the reason why the saints will not need lamps or the light of the sun. However, in the rest of the earth in the age to come, the earth will experience both day and night. And so, the nations of the earth will need both lamps and they will need the light of the sun, in order to function in the earth.
