John 3:17-19 “For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved. (18) "He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. (19) And this is the condemnation, that the light has come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.”
When the unbelievers stand before God on their day of judgement, the purpose will not be to determine whether they are innocent or guilty, for all will have already been declared guilty before God (Romans 3:19). And so, if the unbelievers will have already been declared guilty, when did that happen and who declared them guilty? The answer to that question is that each unbeliever is declared guilty while they are still alive on the earth, and each one declares themselves guilty before God. In the above passage of scripture, our Lord Jesus taught us the truth that each one that rejects the truth of the gospel preached to them in this life in effect condemn themselves for all eternity. That is why they will have no defence before the Lord on that day, for they will then realize to their absolute horror, that they are the ones who pronounced themselves guilty before God, by rejecting the salvation that He provided for them.
Acts 13:45-46 “But when the Jews saw the multitudes, they were filled with envy; and contradicting and blaspheming, they opposed the things spoken by Paul. (46) Then Paul and Barnabas grew bold and said, "It was necessary that the word of God should be spoken to you first; but since you reject it, and judge yourselves unworthy of everlasting life, behold, we turn to the Gentiles.”
In the above passage of scripture, the Holy Spirit through the apostle Paul confirms the truth taught by the Lord Jesus, that all unbelievers condemn themselves in this life. For in this passage, we see that those who reject the salvation of God pronounce judgement on themselves as being unworthy of eternal life. Just think about that for a moment. To realize on your day of judgement, that you had the God given opportunity to accept His salvation, and that you deliberately scorned His grace and mercy, and thus judged yourself unworthy of eternal life. No wonder our Lord describes those condemned, as weeping and gnashing their teeth for all eternity.
