Luke 10:21-22 “In that hour Jesus rejoiced in the Spirit and said, "I thank You, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that You have hidden these things from the wise and prudent and revealed them to babes. Even so, Father, for so it seemed good in Your sight. (22) All things have been delivered to Me by My Father, and no one knows who the Son is except the Father, and who the Father is except the Son, and the one to whom the Son wills to reveal Him.”
The third witness quoted above, is the Lord Jesus Christ. In this passage, Jesus very clearly teaches us just who it is that God allows to have understanding of the message of the gospel, i.e. babes, and who God hides the gospel message from, i.e. the wise and the prudent. When Jesus made this statement, He was not saying that “all” babes can understand the gospel, while “all” wise and prudent cannot understand it, for the apostle Paul gives us more clarity regarding this point, when he teaches us that “few” wise and noble are chosen for salvation, but “many” weak and despised are chosen (1 Corinthians 1:26-27). But the main point that I wanted to highlight from this passage, is that Jesus plainly teaches us that God the Father hides the gospel message from those who are not appointed to salvation, while at the same time revealing it to those who are chosen for salvation. And so, when those in the world who claim to be wise hear the message of the gospel, they scoff at it as being complete foolishness. And the reason they do that is because their minds have been blinded to the truth and they cannot see it.
