Daniel 7:21-25 “I was watching; and the same horn was making war against the saints, and prevailing against them, … (25) He shall speak pompous words against the Most High, shall persecute the saints of the Most High, And shall intend to change times and law. Then the saints shall be given into his hand for a time and times and half a time.”
So when will the event called the falling away occur? As we read earlier, when the apostle Paul referred to the falling away he linked it to the revelation of the son of perdition. In the passage of scripture quoted earlier, our Lord Jesus also links the event of many becoming offended with the revelation of the “Abomination of Desolation”. The Abomination of Desolation that our Lord speaks of refers to the event of the Anti-Christ sitting in the temple of God. The passage of scripture quoted above, refers specifically to the Anti-Christ and his period of reign on the earth. But I want to draw your attention to the fact that the scripture reveals to us that the Anti-Christ will make war against the saints, and that he will prevail against them. In other words, he will be the cause of great persecution breaking out against the saints. And the scripture tells us that the saints will be given into his hands for a period of three and half years. It will be during this period of great persecution that two things will happen among the saints. Many will become offended and fall away, while many others will remain faithful to the Lord even to the point of martyrdom. Those who become offended and fall away will be the saints who have not been grounded in the word of truth, and so will be unprepared for this period of intense persecution.
