When we look at the instrument that will be used to destroy Babylon the great, we will have a clearer understanding of why it is that all that saw her burning stood at a distance for fear of her torment. And then finally, we see in this passage of scripture just what it is that will be destroyed on that day. For we see clearly that it is the wealth of the world that will be destroyed. For the scripture says, “therefore, her plagues will come in one day--death and mourning and famine”, and, “no one buys their merchandise anymore”, and again, “the fruit that your soul longed for has gone from you, and all the things which are rich and splendid have gone from you, and you shall find them no more at all”, and again, “for in one hour such great riches came to nothing”. We also see in this passage that it is mainly the world leaders, the business moguls, and those who were made rich with the wealth of the world that will cry out weeping and wailing on that day. For the scripture says that it is the kings of the earth who will weep and lament for her, and it is the merchants who became rich by her that will stand at a distance for fear of her torment weeping and wailing, and again, that her merchants were the great men of the earth. It is these individuals that will be greatly affected by the destruction of the harlot but nevertheless, the whole world will feel the effects of her destruction.
