Revelation 2:26-28 “And he who overcomes … (28) I will give him the morning star.”
As revealed to us in the above quoted passage of scripture the fifth reward that our Lord Jesus has for the one who overcomes, is that He will give to each one the Morning Star.
Revelation 22:16 “I, Jesus, have sent My angel to testify to you these things in the churches. I am the Root and the Offspring of David, the Bright and Morning Star.”
So what does the Lord mean when He tells us that He will give us the Morning Star on that day? As revealed in the above quoted passage of scripture the Lord Jesus Himself is the Morning Star. And so it would have been entirely scriptural for the Lord to say to us that He will give us Himself on that day. But even that concept is a bit difficult for us to understand, for how could the Lord give us Himself on that day?
2 Peter 1:19 “And so we have the prophetic word confirmed, which you do well to heed as a light that shines in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts.”
The apostle Peter sheds a bit more light on the subject of the Morning Star in the above quoted passage of scripture, when he teaches us that the Morning Star will rise in our hearts on that day. And so we see that when Peter mentions that the Morning Star will rise in our hearts he means that we will become just like Jesus on that day, for the scripture declares that we will be like Him because we will see Him as He is (1 John 3:2).
