The importance of Daniel’s location

And then finally, history reveals to us that when Alexander the Great died that his empire was split up into four separate kingdoms. As we will see, it is from one of these kingdoms that the Anti-Christ will arise in the last days. One of the reasons that the Lord put that aspect into this vision, was so that we would be able to clearly identify the geographic location of the Anti-Christ’s kingdom. And so, the second aspect of the vision relates to the geographic location of the vision itself. The third aspect of the vision refers to the rise of the Anti-Christ himself, and the rise of his kingdom. We have already looked at the part of the vision that for us today, is historical. So let us now look at the second aspect of the vision, which we have said is the geographical aspect. Notice that our Lord placed Daniel in a very specific geographic point when He gave him this vision. When he received the vision Daniel was not physically at that location. The Holy Spirit took him there in the vision, and by the direction of the Holy Spirit Daniel recorded for us exactly where he was standing. Daniel found himself standing next to the river Ulai in the citadel of Shushan in the province of Elam. As we have already seen, when Alexander the Great died his kingdom was divided into four separate kingdoms. One of those four kingdoms was called the Seleucid Empire.
