The falling away isn’t new

Luke 8:13 “But the ones on the rock are those who, when they hear, receive the word with joy; and these have no root, who believe for a while and in time of temptation fall away.” Since the church began there have always been those who have fallen away from following the Lord Jesus. Our Lord Jesus taught us this truth in the parable of the sower, quoted above. These are people who hear the gospel of salvation and believe in the Lord Jesus, and are born-again. But from the time that they are saved they never grow spiritually. And so through temptations, they are slowly drawn back into the world. They eventually become so entangled in the things of the world that they are once again overcome by the world, and stop following the Lord altogether. And thus they fall away. It is not always baby Christians that fall away however. Michael E.B. Maher
