And so, we see that the seven kingdoms referred to by the angel in John’s vision, were the seven kingdoms that reigned over the city of Babylon, from its inception until its demise. So why did our Lord want us to know about the seven kingdoms that reigned over the city of Babylon? He revealed this to us, so that we could clearly identify where the Anti-Christ would come from. For the kingdom from where the Anti-Christ will arise, is the kingdom that replaced the last of the seven kingdoms mentioned by the angel, and that is the kingdom of Islam. For Islam, has been in control of that geographic region from 650 AD, even until today. And so, we have seen that the seven kingdoms plus the eighth kingdom of Islam that replaced them are all linked to the geographic region of the ancient city of Babylon. We have also seen in the previous section, that it is the kingdom of Islam that our Lord will destroy, when He returns to reign on the earth. That truth is consistent with what the Lord showed Nebuchadnezzar in his dream. For the scripture says, “You watched while a stone was cut out without hands, which struck the image on its feet of iron and clay, and broke them in pieces”. The feet in Nebuchadnezzar’s dream, represents the last kingdom linked to the geographic region of Babylon, which is the current kingdom of Islam. There are two other points that need to be mentioned here. The first one, being the fact that the angel revealed to John that the Anti-Christ would in fact be the eighth king that would arise, and that he would come from the seven. By looking at the link, between the seven kingdoms and the rise of Islam, we can now clearly understand what the angel meant, for in the previous section we have already seen that the Anti-Christ emerges from the religion of Islam. The second point is that the final kingdom mentioned in Nebuchadnezzar’s dream, refers to the toes of the feet, which were partly of iron and partly of clay. This last kingdom will be made up of a coalition of nations, for the scripture says, “And in the days of these kings the God of heaven will set up a kingdom”. Notice that the scripture refers to kings (plural) not king (singular). There were ten toes on the feet of the last kingdom in Nebuchadnezzar’s dream, and as we have seen in the previous section, there are ten kings mentioned by the angel, that will arise from the fourth kingdom in the last days. Clearly both Nebuchadnezzar’s dream and the angel’s explanation of John’s vision are referring to the same kingdoms. And so, we have seen clearly in this section that the seven kingdoms mentioned by the angel have all since passed on, and they have been replaced by the current kingdom of Islam. Michael E.B. Maher
