The church started out Jewish

Romans 11:25 “For I do not desire, brethren, that you should be ignorant of this mystery, lest you should be wise in your own opinion, that blindness in part has happened to Israel until the fullness of the Gentiles has come in.” In the apostle Paul’s letter to the church at Rome quoted above, the Holy Spirit clearly tells us that there is coming a time when the fullness of the gentiles would have come into the kingdom. Again, the Holy Spirit clearly tells us that there are a finite number of gentiles that will be saved. For He says that, “the fullness of the Gentiles will come in”. Notice that with regards to the timeline of the key events that must take place before our Lord returns, that the event of the fullness of the gentiles coming into the kingdom must take place before natural Israel can be added to the kingdom. If we look back at the history of the church, we can more clearly understand how God will bring to pass that which He has stated in this passage of scripture. When the church began, she was one hundred percent Jewish and there were no gentile believers. Over the years, more and more gentile believers were added and fewer Jewish believers were added, until the church became predominately gentile with a very small remnant of Jewish believers. Until very recent times that has remained the status quo in the church. Michael E.B. Maher
