Sound doctrine will become unpopular

2 Timothy 4:3-4 “For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers; (4) and they will turn their ears away from the truth, and be turned aside to fables.”

In the above passage of scripture, the Holy Spirit gives us further insight into the characteristics displayed by believers who will fall away in the latter times. Notice that the scripture states that these believers will no longer endure sound doctrine. These believers will follow after false prophets, who fabricate false visions and dreams that they claim to have seen. They will follow after false teachers, who only proclaim certain truths in God’s word and give motivational talks rather than teaching the full counsel of God. The false prophets and teachers, who teach these destructive heresies, will do so mainly for financial gain. Many of the false prophets and teachers would have themselves once been followers of the Lord. But over time they will give more and more heed to deceiving spirits and doctrines of demons, thus not only deceiving others but becoming more deceived themselves.
