However, that argument is a distorted view of God’s love, for God never ignores a person’s sin because He doesn’t want to offend them. The whole ministry of the Holy Spirit in the earth today is to convict the world of sin, righteousness, and judgement (John 16:8). The reason He does that is so that unbelievers can repent and be saved. However if believers refuse to proclaim God’s laws because society finds His laws offensive, how is it possible for the Holy Spirit to be able to convict the world of sin? And so what happens is that the world continues in sin because the Christians don’t want to upset them, and the real reason Christians don’t want to offend the world, is because they love the world more than they love God. And so we see that because sin will abound, the love toward God of many believers will grow cold. One of the evidences of a believer’s love for God is their willingness to keep His commandments. Our Lord Jesus said it this way, "If you love Me, keep My commandments” (John 14:15). Believers that allow their love of God to grow cold, run the risk of eventually falling away from the Lord altogether. Nevertheless, for those believers that choose to keep the Lord’s commandments, they will begin to experience more and more hatred in the last days, which is why our Lord said that in the last days that Christians will be hated by all nations for His name’s sake. Even in nations where believers are not persecuted because of their religious beliefs, because “freedom of religion” is allowed in those nations, Christians will be hated because they will proclaim God’s laws which those societies will find offensive. This is why our Lord said that only those who endure to the end shall be saved.
