Do not marvel at this; for the hour is coming in which all who are in the graves will hear His voice and come forth-- those who have done good, to the resurrection of life, and those who have done evil, to the resurrection of condemnation.
(John 5:28-29)
In an earlier section, we discussed the first of the two resurrections—namely, the resurrection of the saints. In the passage quoted above, Jesus refers to both resurrections: the first He calls the resurrection of life, and the second He calls the resurrection of condemnation. In this section, we will consider the second of the two, which is the resurrection of unbelievers.
But the rest of the dead did not live again until the thousand years were finished. This is the first resurrection. Blessed and holy is he who has part in the first resurrection. Over such the second death has no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with Him a thousand years.
(Revelation 20:5-6)
The second resurrection will occur only after the Lord’s millennial reign. This passage makes it clear that “the rest of the dead” do not live again until the thousand years are completed. The phrase “the rest of the dead” refers to unbelievers, and their living again refers to the resurrection of condemnation.
