Revelation 2:17 “He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To him who overcomes I will give… him a white stone, and on the stone a new name written which no one knows except him who receives it.”
As revealed to us in the above quoted passage of scripture the fourth reward that our Lord Jesus has for the one who overcomes, is that He will give to each one a white stone on which is written their new name. I have heard of people who have prophesied over others as to what their names will be in heaven and invariably the names prophesied are those we have all heard of before. I just smile at such foolishness because I know that these people are just speaking out of their flesh, for the Holy Spirit does not violate the word of God which plainly states that the Lord does not reveal our heavenly names to anyone except the one to whom He gives it.
Genesis 17:5 “No longer shall your name be called Abram, but your name shall be Abraham; for I have made you a father of many nations.”
On earth our parents named each one of us when we were born into the earth. Each name has its own meaning and should describe the character of that person. There are accounts in scripture when individuals had their names changed by God when He called them to follow Him. Abram’s earthly parents gave him his name which meant “father”. In the passage of scripture quoted above however we see that there came a time in Abram’s life when God changed his name to Abraham and his new name meant “father of many nations”. And so we see that God called Abraham by the name that described who he had become, or more accurately who God had made him to be. In a similar manner on our day of judgement each one of us will receive our new name given to us by our heavenly Father, which will describe who God has made us to be for all eternity.
Psalms 147:4 “He counts the number of the stars; He calls them all by name.”
It is important to note that the names that our Lord Jesus will give us on that day will be unique to each one of us, and that no saint will receive a name that another saint is also named by. In the passage of scripture quoted above the scripture tells us that God names each one of the stars in the universe individually. It is estimated that there are well over one billion trillion stars in the observable universe, and yet God gives each one its own unique name. Truly we serve an amazing God. And so on that day each one of the saints will receive their own unique name from the Lord Jesus, and only God and the individual will know that name, and that name will describe how God sees each saint and who He has made the saint to become for all eternity.
