Hebrews 8:13 In that He says, "A New Covenant," He has made the first obsolete. Now what is becoming obsolete and growing old is ready to vanish away.
There is one last point that needs to be mentioned about Israel after the flesh; which is its longevity. So what do I mean by that statement? I have already mentioned that just as the Old Covenant is a shadow of the New Covenant, Israel after the flesh is also a shadow of the Israel of God. And so in light of that truth, we have the above-quoted passage of scripture where the apostle Paul compares the Old Covenant with the New Covenant. And in this passage, Paul says of the Old Covenant, that it is becoming obsolete and growing old and is ready to vanish away. In the same manner Israel after the flesh is also ready to vanish away. So what do I mean by that statement? When the Old Covenant finally ends at the end of the age, Israel after the flesh will also cease to exist with it. From that point on, only the New Covenant and the Israel of God will remain; i.e. there will no longer be two Covenants and two Israel’s. And so we see that because Israel after the flesh will cease to exist at the end of the age, that indicates to us that God’s purposes for the first Israel will come to an end at the end of this current age. In other words, God’s purpose for Israel after the flesh is temporary and not eternal.
