Jeremiah 30:4-7 “Now these are the words that the Lord spoke concerning Israel and Judah. (5) "For thus says the Lord: 'We have heard a voice of trembling, of fear, and not of peace. (6) Ask now, and see, whether a man is ever in labor with child? So why do I see every man with his hands on his loins like a woman in labor, and all faces turned pale? (7) Alas! For that day is great, so that none is like it; and it is the time of Jacob's trouble, but he shall be saved out of it.”
Our Lord Jesus has taught us about the great tribulation that would take place in the last days. As we have seen in the previous section that persecution will begin in the nation of Israel, and from there it will spread to the rest of the world. Because the Anti-Christ will reign from the city of Jerusalem, Israel will bear the brunt of the persecution instituted by the Anti-Christ. The above passage of scripture gives us an account of what that time of persecution will be like, and it deals specifically with the nation of Israel, because the Holy Spirit says that “these are the words that the Lord spoke concerning Israel and Judah”. The scripture calls it “the time of Jacob's trouble”, and that this time of trouble will be great “so that none is like it”. Think about that statement for a moment. Both the Jews and the world today think that the persecution suffered by the Jews during the holocaust, was the worst persecution in their history. And yet the scripture tells us that there is coming a time when the Jews will suffer an even greater persecution than the holocaust. The Jews today have vowed that the holocaust will never happen again, but sadly the bible teaches us differently. But I also want you to notice that regarding Jacob’s day of trouble that our Lord says, “But he shall be saved out of it”. The reason that the Holy Spirit says that Israel will be saved out of it is because it will be during this period of intense persecution that the nation of Israel will turn to Jesus their Messiah.
