I said, “Firstly, if I am to be pastor of your church I will never preach that salvation through Jesus Christ is the only way to get to heaven, because I just don’t believe that to be the truth. Secondly, if I am to be pastor of your church I will never mention the devil, hell, or sin from the pulpit and I will admonish the congregation not to mention them either. And then thirdly, I need you to know that I believe that Mormons are Christians because they believe in Jesus”. I then asked my brother if I would be considered for their vacant pastor’s position. To which he loudly replied, “No way”! At this point all in the audience also loudly agreed with him. I then told them that the current pastor of the largest church in America has publicly stated that each one of these statements form part of his core beliefs, and they are on public record for everyone to see. Most in the audience still did not know who I was referring to, although by this time some had caught on. And so I named the pastor of the largest church in America. Most in the audience were shocked to hear this. But the point was very clearly made. None in the audience could accept that it was possible for someone with those beliefs to even be considered for the role of deacon. And yet this person, who has stated each one of those beliefs in public, is the pastor of the largest church in America. And so, we find that we are very far advanced into the timeline of the falling away occurring in the church.
