Hosea 3:4-5 “For the children of Israel shall abide many days without king or prince, without sacrifice or sacred pillar, without ephod or teraphim. (5) Afterward the children of Israel shall return and seek the Lord their God and David their king. They shall fear the Lord and His goodness in the latter days.” In the above passage of scripture, the Lord tells Israel that they would abide many days without a leader and without the temple. Since that prophecy, Israel has never had both a leader and the temple restored at the same time. She had the temple restored in approximately 450 BC, but as we have said, she was a not a sovereign nation at that time and so she had no leader restored to her. The second temple was destroyed in 70 AD. Since that time, her sovereignty as a nation has been restored in 1948, and she now has leaders but no temple. But God stated that in the latter days, the Jews would return to Israel and seek the Lord their God and fear the Lord and His goodness. In other words, the nation of Israel once they returned to Israel would once again turn to God as a nation. And the Lord clearly implied in this passage, that He would restore to them both their leaders and the temple. Modern Israel today is mainly secular, and as such she is very far from seeking the fear of the Lord as a nation. When we read the prophetic vision of Ezekiel (chapters 40 to 47), we see an Israel that is fully observant of the laws of Moses. And so, we see that God will work a miracle in that nation to return that nation to following the laws of Moses. Michael E.B. Maher
