Galatians 3:24 “Therefore the law was our tutor to bring us to Christ, that we might be justified by faith.” In the scripture quoted above the apostle Paul explains that the law, which is the old covenant, is Israel’s tutor leading them to Christ. For our Lord Jesus said that the law testifies of Him (John 5:39). The old covenant is becoming obsolete and is ready to vanish away (Hebrews 8:13). But until God has brought all those of the circumcision into His kingdom it remains in place, for the scripture teaches us that their covenant remains in place for the present time, until the time of the reformation (Hebrews 9:10). The time of reformation will only take place when our Lord Jesus returns to the earth. All through the Old Testament, the Lord spoke through His prophets telling the children of Israel that because of their persistent rebellion against Him, they would be removed from the land of Israel and be scattered throughout the nations of the world. The first time this happened was in the year 604 BC when the Babylonian empire destroyed Jerusalem and the temple. At that time the Jews were taken captive to Babylon. Even before that event however, most of Israel had already been dispersed throughout the nations of the world. In the year 450 BC, the Jews were partially restored to their land and the temple was rebuilt. But they were never a sovereign nation again as they always fell under the rule of some foreign power. And even when our Lord Jesus came to the earth to die on the cross, Israel was being ruled by the Roman Empire. In the year 70 AD God’s prophecies were finally fulfilled. Jerusalem and the temple were destroyed and the rest of Israel were scattered throughout the world. All through the old testament, when our Lord prophesied to Israel about them being scattered throughout the nations, at the same time the Lord also told them that in the latter times, He would once again bring them back to the land of Israel that He gave to their fathers. There are many prophecies in scripture that speak of this event that would take place. Michael E.B. Maher
