In the interpretation Daniel tells us that the first kingdom in the dream was the Babylonian empire. With regards to the first kingdom mentioned by Daniel, God said that He had made Nebuchadnezzar ruler over all the earth, for He said, “wherever the children of men dwell”, He “has made you ruler over them all”. And yet history plainly reveals to us that although the Babylonian empire under Nebuchadnezzar was a vast empire, it certainly did not span the entire globe. The extent of that empire covered the geographic area today that extended from modern day Iran to modern day Egypt. The next kingdom referred to by the Holy Spirit in this vision was the Median Empire, which history shows us was inferior to the Babylonian empire. And then we come to the third kingdom mentioned, which is referred to as the kingdom of bronze in this vision. History reveals to us that this empire was the Persian Empire. Again, this empire was extremely vast in that it included today’s geographic areas, extending from modern day Greece to modern day Egypt and also reached to the northern parts of modern day India. But even though this empire was extremely vast it still did not span the entire globe. And yet God said in this vision that this empire ruled over all the earth, for the scripture says “a third kingdom of bronze, which shall rule over all the earth”.
