Fewer gentiles are trampling Jerusalem

Luke 21:24 “And they will fall by the edge of the sword, and be led away captive into all nations. And Jerusalem will be trampled by Gentiles until the times of the Gentiles are fulfilled.” The above passage of scripture records a prophetic statement made by our Lord Jesus. In this passage our Lord was referring to the destruction of Jerusalem, which took place in the year 70 AD. When our Lord made His statement, the population of the city of Jerusalem was one hundred percent Jewish. After the Jews were removed from Jerusalem in the year 70 AD, for centuries gentiles accounted for one hundred percent of Jerusalem’s population, i.e. no Jews lived there. Jesus stated that the city of Jerusalem would be trampled by gentiles until the times of the gentiles were fulfilled. When our Lord referred to the times of the gentiles being fulfilled, He was referring to that which the Holy Spirit spoke of through the apostle Paul in the book of Romans, i.e. the fullness of the gentiles coming into the kingdom of God (Romans 11:25). In other words, our Lord was saying that when the fullness of the gentiles have come into the kingdom, then the city of Jerusalem will once again be fully restored to the nation of Israel. Over the centuries, the Jewish population of Jerusalem has grown from zero percent to its current population of sixty percent. Michael E.B. Maher
