A false prophet is one who deceitfully claims to have had visions and dreams from the Lord. They proclaim their visions to attract attention to themselves and their ministries, mainly for financial gain, i.e. covetousness. The Holy Spirit through the apostle Paul told us to test all things, including prophesies (1 Thessalonians 5:21). We test prophesies against scripture, to see if the prophecy given lines up with God’s word. We test visions and dreams in the same manner. There are two very prominent ministers in the church today, who both recount fabricated visions that they claim to have received from the Lord Jesus. Combined, these two ministers have over one million followers in the church today. And yet the claimed visions of both men, when tested against scripture, are clearly proven to be false. When Satan tries to deceive the church, he always disguises his lies with an element of truth.
Genesis 3:4-5 “Then the serpent said to the woman, "You will not surely die. (5) For God knows that in the day you eat of it your eyes will be opened and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.”
In the above passage of scripture we see that when Satan deceived Eve, he disguised his lie with the truth. The truth he shared with Eve was, “in the day you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil”. We know this was true, because that is exactly what happened. For after they ate the fruit God said, “the man has become like one of Us, to know good and evil” (Genesis 3:22). The lie that Satan mixed with the truth however, was “you will not surely die”. We know this was the lie because the exact opposite happened, for after they ate the fruit they both died in spirit. And so as Satan deceived Eve, he continues to apply the same principle in the church today.
