Declaring God’s full counsel

Ephesians 4:11-14 “And He Himself gave some to be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, and some pastors and teachers, (12) for the equipping of the saints for the work of ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ, (13) till we all come to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a perfect man, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ; (14) that we should no longer be children, tossed to and fro and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, in the cunning craftiness of deceitful plotting.” As quoted above in His letter to the church in Ephesus, the Holy Spirit tells us that He has placed the ministry gifts in the church to bring the Lord’s church to maturity. God expects the ministry gifts to study His word so that they can learn to rightly divide the word of truth (2 Timothy 2:15). For the ministry gifts are stewards of the mysteries of God (1 Corinthians 4:1). The ministry gifts are then required to teach that word of truth to the church, declaring God’s full counsel. In this manner, the church can then understand how seemingly contradicting truths in God’s word in fact support each other. Michael E.B. Maher
