Children are born spiritually alive to God

John 1:6-9 “There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. (7) This man came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light that all through him might believe. (8) He was not that Light, but was sent to bear witness of that Light. (9) That was the true Light which gives light to every man coming into the world.”

We have seen in the previous sections that God is the Father of spirits and that every spirit of man is created by God. And so when God creates the spirit of man He imparts His life into the spirit of that man and thus every man is born spiritually alive to God. The context of the above quoted passage of scripture is speaking about the Lord Jesus who is the light of the world. And so in this passage the Holy Spirit teaches us that Jesus gives light to every man coming into the world. In other words every man born into the earth is born of the light of God. As we have already seen, it is the spirit of the man that gives life to the body of man. So when does that actually occur? It occurs the moment the two cells are joined in the womb. The moment that happens, God imparts the spirit of the man into those cells thus imparting life to those cells and thus enabling them to begin dividing as the body begins to form. What that means is that every child born into the earth is born spiritually alive to God, from conception until their childhood comes to an end.

2 Samuel 12:22-23 “And he said, "While the child was alive, I fasted and wept; for I said, 'Who can tell whether the Lord will be gracious to me, that the child may live?' (23) But now he is dead; why should I fast? Can I bring him back again? I shall go to him, but he shall not return to me.”

King David understood the concept of all children being born spiritually alive to God and thus returning to Him when they physically die. The context of the passage of scripture quoted above is that David had been fasting and praying to the Lord to spare the life of his child. If you read the full account you will see that part of God’s judgement pronounced on David for his sins of adultery and murder, was that his son, born from his relationship with Bathsheba, would die. And so when David found out that the child had indeed died, he stopped praying and fasting. The point that I want to raise from this account however, is David’s comment that he would eventually see his son again. The reason that David said that was because he knew that his son had gone to heaven and that David would join him there at some point in the future.

Romans 7:9 “I was alive once without the law, but when the commandment came, sin revived and I died.”

In the above quoted passage of scripture the apostle Paul teaches us the exact same principle regarding children being born spiritually alive to God. In this passage Paul speaks of a time when he was alive in spirit and then dying spiritually when the commandment came. We will discuss the point of Paul dying in spirit in the following section, but the point that I wanted to concentrate on in this section is that Paul categorically stated that there was a time in his life when he was alive in spirit. That time was when Paul was a child. There are several other passages of scripture that we can look at which all say the same thing, i.e. that all children born into the earth are born spiritually alive to God, nevertheless the bible states that out of the mouth of two or three witnesses we are to let every word be established, and so we have looked at three witnesses in this section to establish this particular truth. It is important to note that the truth which we have discussed in this section also means that every child that dies from conception until the end of their childhood goes straight to heaven, for their inward man (their spirits) are still spiritually alive and thus part of God’s kingdom. As an aside, this same truth is applicable to all individuals that never mature mentally, such as those with Down syndrome for example. Because they never mature mentally, God deems them to have no knowledge of good and evil and thus treats them the same as children, in that their spirits never die and they go straight to heaven at the end of their lives.
