Two Israels Unveiled
In Two Israel's Unveiled, Michael E.B. Maher establishes a foundational biblical principle for interpreting prophecy: Scripture reveals two distinct Israel's, not one. He argues that confusion over this truth leads to widespread misinterpretation of end-time events.
The first is “Israel after the flesh” – the physical nation of Israel, descended from Jacob. Membership requires two criteria: biological descent from Jacob and circumcision (the sign of God’s covenant). Maher traces the ancestry of Jews (from Jacob), Arabs (from Ishmael), and Palestinians (from Esau), explaining why only Jacob’s descendants constitute national Israel. This Israel is temporary, a “shadow” that will vanish with the Old Covenant.
The second is “the Israel of God” – the church, comprised of all born-again believers, both Jew and Gentile. Membership requires only the new birth, not physical circumcision or ancestry. Jesus Christ himself is named “Israel” as God’s firstborn Son, making him the founder of this spiritual Israel. This Israel is eternal and scattered throughout the earth as pilgrims.
Maher explicitly rejects Replacement Theology, affirming that God has separate plans for both Israel's. Understanding this dual identity, he concludes, is essential for correctly interpreting biblical prophecy about the nation of Israel.
